The Prague Easter Markets have a great festive spirit - they consist of brightly decorated wooden huts selling traditional handicrafts: glassware, jewellery, embroidered lace, wooden toys, metalware, local ceramics, scented candles, puppets and dolls.
The most common sight are brightly coloured hand-painted Easter eggs. The eggs can be personalized for you right in the square by adding on a name or special message by skilled Czech ladies dressed in traditional folklore costumes.
But Easter markets are not just about shopping. Visitors can observe traditional foods being made and sample all manner of local produce. Large hams are roasted on spits. There are terribly unhealthy, but wonderfully tasty barbequed sausages (klobása). Local cakes and pastries are prepared in front of you, such as 'Trdelník', a hot sugar, nut and cinnamon coated pastry. Local folklore groups and dancers dressed in traditional costumes perform regularly on stage at the Old Town Square. They travel to Prague from all over the Czech Republic to perform their best.
