Rick is always very friendly and he allowed us to use his name for our busines. He never asked for any money. The only rule he expressed: Rick is very uncompromising regarding the quality delivered to the Rick`s books holders. And don`t reveal the date when Rick comes to Prague to protect his privacy.
This walking tour offers the professional and friendly individual care + "a SURPRISE LOCAL TREAT". Every client gets something small, but very local, that you would otherwise miss. We pay attention to the local details ... just as Rick likes. :-)

Itinerary

To make the tour more pleasant your guide will meet the you at the hotel (any time you prefer). Start at the reception of your hotel with the info session. Get a small welcome present: helpful travel tools, maps, book marks and a SURPRISE LOCAL TREAT. Every guide gives his own favorite treats to make the tours unique.

First you will discuss the plans and questions and consult details over the Rick Steves book "the best of Prague". (You will get 10-15minutes free of charge!). We highly recommend to bring your book with you so you can mark the locatios of your itinerary.

Then start with the walking tour of the noble Hradcany Town, the majestic Prague Castle (partly iterior of the st. Vitus Cathedral) and stroll down the quaint Little Quarter. You will promenade across the legendary Charles Bridge and touch the magic place for good luck. Later you will explore the Old Town with amazing astronomical clock. You can finish the tour either in the mystic Jewish Town and search for the mythical creature Golem. Or finish in the New town of Prague, Wenceslass Square - where the Velvet Revolution happened.

THE VELVET REVOLUTION - "the reality and downfall of communism"

Duration: 2-3 hours

The Velvet Revolution was a non-violent revolution in Czechoslovakia that overthrew the totalitarian communist government. To many people it sounds like a fairytale with a good ending: On November 17, 1989, a Friday, the riot police suppressed a peaceful student demonstration in Prague. That event sparked a series of demonstrations. By November 20, the number of peaceful protesters assembled in Prague had swollen from 200,000 the previous day to an estimated half-million. A two-hour general strike, involving all citizens of Czechoslovakia, was held on November 27. Before the end of the year, Václav Havel, a long time persecuted leader of the opposition, became president. And in 1990, Czechoslovakia held its first free elections since 1946. For many of us it was quite moving reality! Let us share our experience and emotions with you.

The establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, the anti-Nazi up rise in 1945, the Communist coup in 1948, the Prague spring of 1968 and the Velvet revolution in 1989.

PRAGUE CHRISTMAS TOUR - " the festive time"

Christmas Eve in Prague Christmas Eve is effectively Christmas Day for Czech people, a day most Czechs spend at home with their family. With fewer people around, this is a wonderfully peaceful day to explore Prague. Especially as the squares are often dusted with snow or a heavy frost, giving the city a real 'olden day' charm.

For visitors, there is still sightseeing and plenty of activities and entertainment on offer. But hours are limited and only a small number of shops, bars and restaurants are open, so it takes a little planning.

Christmas markets (Vanocni trh) are a key ingredient of the festive magic in the Czech Republic, and the Prague Christmas markets are the most impressive. The markets light up the city, bringing locals and tourists together in a true 'winter wonderland' setting.

In the company of your personal guide, walk among the brightly decorated wooden huts selling traditional handicrafts of the market. There is a variety of Christmas trees and locally crafted ornaments, candles, and ceramics. Buy some gifts or souvenirs to take home. Your guide will point you in the direction of the best spots to purchase what you're looking for. Taste some traditional foods as "cukroví" (christmas cookies, they come in a hundred different forms and recipies :-)) and, of course, mulled wine.

PRAGUE EASTER TOUR - "celebrate the spring"

The Prague Easter Markets have a great festive spirit - they consist of brightly decorated wooden huts selling traditional handicrafts: glassware, jewellery, embroidered lace, wooden toys, metalware, local ceramics, scented candles, puppets and dolls.

The most common sight is brightly coloured hand-painted Easter eggs, which Czech ladies dressed in traditional costumes can personalise for you by painting on a name or special message.

But Easter markets are not just about shopping. Visitors can observe traditional foods being made and sample all manner of local produce. Large hams are roasted on spits, there are terribly unhealthy but wonderfully tasty barbequed sausages (klobása), and cakes and pastries prepared in front of you, such as 'Trdelník', a hot sugar coated pastry. Local folk groups and dancers dressed in traditional costume perform regularly on a stage at the Old Town Square. They travel to Prague from all over the Czech Republic to appear.

THE LOBKOWICZ PALACE - "The Princely Collections"

The Lobkowicz Palace is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Prague Castle. It is one of the most beautiful and significant cultural sites in Czechia and Europe. The palace was built between 1560s and 1790s and it has nice renaissance and baroque features. The Lobkowicz family members have been lovers and patrons of fine art and classical music for generations. They treasure one of the most significant private family art collection of Europe. After forty years of communist rule, the family got the ownership of their Palace back. In 2007, following 12 years process of the restitution, more than 3 years of planning, careful restoration and refurbishment, it was opened to the public for the first time as a private family museum.

The exhibition is entitled "The Princely Collections" and includes glorious paintings by old masters, e.g. two world-renowned views of London by Canaletto, The River Thames on Lord Mayor`s Day and Thames with Westminster Bridge, from 1740`s, and Haymaking by Pieter Brueghel the Elder (1565). The largest collection of 16th century Spanish style portrait paintings outside of Spain. Several interesting musical manuscripts (Beethoven, Mozart) and old musical instruments. An armory, containing one of the finest and rarest collections of firearms in Central Europe. Vast and precious ceramics collection. You can visit the palace on your own, using the excellent audio guide provided by the museum for free (recorded by the noble family members themselves!). We recommend you to enjoy a museum tour with one of your guides who has a license for guiding in Lobkowicz Palace and get 10% discount for the entrance fee (275 CZK, ~13USD)
